Mapping X and Y Correctly in a Geospatial Visualization
If the objects in your geospatial visualization are not represented in GlyphViewer over the expected geographic locations, the issue is likely caused by mapping latitude and longitude to the wrong axes in DataMapper.
The image below depicts a sample visualization that should display glyphs across various locations in New England. You can see in the upper left corner that latitude is (incorrectly) mapped to the X axis, and longitude is (incorrectly) mapped to the Y axis, resulting in glyphs that are incorrectly geolocated.
(Note: in some cases, the visualization will not load if the coordinates are incorrectly mapped, and a MapQuest error will be shown.)
To prevent this issue from occurring, keep in mind the following:
- The data source field containing longitude coordinates should always be mapped to Position X (the X axis) in DataMapper.
- The data source field containing latitude coordinates should always be mapped to Position Y (the Y axis) in DataMapper.
